Will Jim Furyk play in the Presidents Cup? Who is his replacement?

United States captain Jay Haas has an unnamed player on standby for the Presidents Cup, with Jim Furyk’s fitness still in doubt ahead of next week’s event in South Korea. Furyk will travel to Korea to serve as a fourth captain’s assistant to the Haas and the USA team, joining Fred Couples, Davis Love III and Steve Stricker.

The United States face Nick Price’s Internationals at Incheon’s Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea from October. 8-11 as the biennial team competition comes to Asia for the first time.

Furyk withdrew from the BMW Championship because of a deep bone bruise in his left wrist, and he sat out the Tour Championship last week with hopes it would get better.

Furyk typically doesn’t play much in the fall, and he said that would give his wrist time to heal.

Per competition rules, Haas was able to name a replacement player to his roster, regardless of the points list.

Holmes will be making his Presidents Cup debut. This will be Holmes’ first Presidents Cup appearance, but he was a member of the victorious 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup team (where he went 2-0-1) and had a strong year on Tour.

Breaking: Jim Furyk will be unable to compete in next week’s Presidents Cup due to injury. “I am, however, very honoured and excited to get the call”.

“He has plane reservations, his clothing is being readied, if that happens”, added Haas. “He’s had two top 10s to end the FedEx Cup Playoffs, so he’s playing well and he’ll be a good fit”.
