Jennifer Aniston’s first Emirates commercial
In the 60-second spot, Aniston is seen walking down the aisle of an airplane in a white robe looking for the shower. “But we do have hot towels and a bag of peanuts”.
After replying that “This is not an Emirates plane”, the flight attendants proceed to laugh mockingly at her apparently ridiculous requests.
She then wakes up from her “nightmare” to find herself sleeping in Emirates business class.
While Emirates’ premium customers do have access to showers and bars, the ad does not try to compare Emirates’ coach class to that of the USA carriers. Emirates, along with Etihad and Qatar airlines, have been engaged in a yearlong dispute with the USA big three of American, Delta and United, which allege that the Gulf airlines accept government subsidies. It is the largest airline in the Middle East, operating over 3,300 flights per week from its hub at Dubai worldwide Airport, to more than 148 cities in 78 countries across six continents. Your move, USA carriers.
Last month it was announced that Jennifer would star as the new face of Emirates’ global campaign.
A year ago British Airways’ used Naomi Watts to star in a series of retro posters, marking its 80th anniversary, and Qantas recently named Hugh Jackman as its latest ambassador.
News of Aniston’s tie-up with Emirates surfaced this past August, with the New York Post citing sources at the time in reporting that the deal was worth about $5 million.
“In a departure from the usual airline industry ads, we chose to take a humorous approach to showcase the incredible products we offer on board”, Bourtros tells the National.
“When we see something fit in with our brand and it’s needed, we do it”, noted Boutros on choosing Aniston for the ad. “We had a nice script, and she fit into it, it’s written for her. It’s a lovely ad, I saw the first cut, [and] I love it”, noted Boutos, reported Ahlan.
