Watch the controversy in Seattle Seahawks’ win against Detroit Lions
As receiver Calvin Johnson tried to stretch across the goal line, safety Kam Chancellor punched the ball loose, sending it bouncing into the end zone. The ball rolled through the end zone, and Seattle linebacker K.J. Wright looked as if he intentionally batted the ball over the back line, thinking the Seahawks would take possession on a touchback, which they did with 1:45 to go.
But in the end, Seattle’s defense came through. “We fight to the end”. In other words, it swung each team’s chances by about 70 percent. “But one thing about our offensive line and the receivers – and our backs, too – is that we trust the process”.
Former National Football League official Gerry Austin said on ESPN’s postgame show that Wright should have been called for a penalty because it’s illegal to bat the ball out of the end zone like he did.
Blandino went on to explain that since the play is a judgement call it can not be reviewed even though it was in the final two minutes of the game. So, you know, they could save the day by not bungling calls like batting the ball out of the end zone. Caldwell said Walker’s injury was significant. “What can you do?” You know – because the Seahawks are so beloved around the NFL? Bennett said. “My kids go to private school”.
But most watching the play felt it was overt, including Seahawks coach Pete Carroll who admitted as much.
For 54 minutes of game time on Monday night, the Detroit Lions offense could do nothing at all.
The Detroit defense also shined. (The Lions also scored a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery.) It no doubt helps the Seahawks having safety Kam Chancellor return after he skipped the team’s first two games while seeking a restructured contract.
With that in mind, here is a look at the fantasy totals and reactions for a few of Seattle’s key playmakers.
“I didn’t want to try and catch it and fumble it, ” he said. Home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs, which essentially got them into the Super Bowl previous year and which the Packers have vowed to take for themselves this time?
“The Lions can’t block anybody, and they haven’t been able to run the ball. A lot of outstanding play from the guys up front”. Wilson threw for 287 yards and rushed for another 40 yards, but was sacked six times. “Those are on me”. Jimmy Graham was a non factor with only four catches for 29 yards and the run game was held in control with 105 rushing yards, but 62 came from running backs.
“It was exciting”, Rawls said. And the Seahawks needed an enormous defensive play by Chancellor (and a non-call by the officials) to save the win. It’s not about who’s out there. “You’re going to hear about that one”.
Stafford finished 24-for-35 for 203 yards.
On the ensuing drive, Wilson found a wide-open Jermaine Kearse for a 50-yard catch and run to ice the game and keep the Lions (0-4) winless. The defense managed to limit the damage from both Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, and for the second consecutive game the Seahawks did not allow an offensive touchdown by the opposing team. Wilson’s most memorable play was spinning free of two near sacks and finding Kearse for 34 yards in the second quarter, and then hitting Doug Baldwin on a 24-yard TD on the next play.
The score, which capped a six-play, 67-yard drive, was the first offensive touchdown in the first half by Seattle this season.
