Al Roker apologizes for ‘insensitive’ selfie amid South Carolina flooding
The popular NBC weatherman posed for a photo with a pair of unidentified co-workers in front of vehicle caught in a partially collapsed roadway, posting it to his verified Twitter feed on Sunday.
Roker quickly came under fire for the picture, which seemed to ignore the fact that the flood was causing widespread damage in the region – and wasn’t anything to be smiling about.
Al Roker has apologized for a selfie that was deemed insensitive.
“I apologize for being insensitive”, he went on. The woman in that vehicle got out without injury. “We should not have been in the picture”, Roker apologized on his tweet, Fox News added.
The original photo – which was captioned with “My crew and I getting ready to report on East Coast flooding from S. Carolina on @NBCNightlyNews with Kate Snow” – has since been deleted.
Parts of South Carolina saw over 20 inches of rainfall on October. 4, according to the Daily Mail. By Monday, the heaviest rains had moved into the mid-Atlantic states, but not before making history in South Carolina.
Unsafe traffic conditions in the state due to the storms have prompted South Carolina governor Nikki Haley to issue public warnings urging people to stay off the roads and take necessary safety precautions.
