CBS Officially Out Of Ideas, Rebooting MacGyver
The action adventure series MacGyver is on its way back to television without original star Richard Dean Anderson.
“MacGyver“, which produced two TV movies in 1994, was originally planned to be revived on television by Paramount Pictures through a spin-off series, “Young MacGyver“.
CBS describes the project (via EW) as: “A reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening”. Scott Gemmill, who is associated with NCIS: Los Angeles, will reportedly write the script and executive produce the new MacGyver reboot. However, sources have said that a hefty put pilot commitment has been made.
With the recent trend of rebooting shows from the 80’s, “MacGyver” joins the growing line up as CBS pushes through with the show’s revival.
James Wan is known for his work in “Saw”, “Insidious: Chapter 2”, “The Conjuring” and “Furious 7”. According to him, the version of MacGyver that he wanted to create would have existed in a story similar to North by Northwest.
Evidently, one of the ones at CBS.
The popular 80s show follows a long list of old show remakes including “Full House”, “The X-Files”, “Heroes”, “Prison Break” and “The Muppets”. Later this season, series based on Rush Hour and Uncle Buck are also scheduled to appear. Just yesterday, Fox announced its plans for a Lethal Weapon reboot.
