Rep. Young Joins Indiana Senate Race to Succeed Coats
Young has already announced plans for what he calls a “special campaign event” in Sellersburg on July 18.
Young, a three-term congressman from southern Indiana, made the announcement Sunday in a video released by his campaign.
This week, Foughty informed news media that Young had raised more than $1 million in campaign contributions during the second quarter of the year?- the majority of it from outside his Bloomington-based House district -? and had more than $2 million in cash on hand.
Young becomes the third member of the GOP primary, joining ex- Indiana State GOP chair Eric Holcomb, who was also Sen. Hill defeated by Young for the 9th District seat in 2010.
“He’s had a pretty undistinguished career so far in Congress”, said Democrat Ann DeLaney, “so it’s only fitting he would try to follow in the footsteps of Dan Coats who has a pretty undistinguished career as a U.S. Senator”.
Young himself only appears briefly, saying he owes everything to God, his family, the Naval Academy, and the Marine Corps. He said he understands some people’s frustrations over that. “We’re going to wake up tomorrow and continue to fight on a different front”, he said.
“The best way I can think of to give back is to ensure every Hoosier family enjoys a better future”, Young says in the video.
