PC Dave Phillips: Family visit scene of officer’s death
An 18 year old man from Wallasey has been charged with the murder of PC Dave Phillips.
Clayton Williams, 18, of Merseyside in England, will appear before magistrates accused of murdering the father of two.
Phillip Stuart, 30, of Mayfair Court, Oxton, is charged with aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and burglary.
Jen Phillips, 28, and her children Abi, seven, and Sophie, three, visited Dock Road in Wallasey to lay lilies at the site which was already a mass of floral tributes.
Her sister-in-law, Hannah Whieldon said just hours before his final fatal shift, Pc Phillips had been with his wife filming their girl “beaming” with smiles, singing and dancing.
Visibly upset colleagues of the much-loved police officer continued to place flowers at the scene today, with a former policeman “severely injured” in the line of duty leaving a particularly poignant note.
“You may not think that the information you have will mean that much, but for us that information could be the vital piece of the jigsaw we need and is essential in helping us to build up a picture in relation to what happened on the night”. “I will miss you, love Abigail”. I love you lots and lots.
It then mounted a central reservation and headed directly at the officer, before speeding off. “XXX Love Abigail XXXXX”.
Pc Phillips had been given CPR by colleagues at the scene but died a short time later at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral.
The officer’s youngest sister, Kate Phillips said: “I was fortunate enough to call you my brother”.
She added: “My daddy is kind and caring because he gives the best kisses and cuddles”.
PC Phillips had been laying a “stop stick”, a device used to stop vehicles during chases by deflating their tyres, as his colleagues pursued the driver of a stolen Mitsubishi L200 Challenger.
Corbyn Street in Wallasey – where the stolen truck was abandoned – remained cordoned off and a heavy police presence was visible.
After her daughters left, their mother was comforted by other family members who came forward to lay their own flowers. “Your little princess Sophie”.
A Home Office post-mortem examination said the officer died from internal injuries suffered in the impact with the vehicle.
A memorial fund has been set up in memory of the father-of-two.
