Baby born in Egypt has just one eye, no nose
An Egyptian woman gave birth to a baby boy with only one eye in the middle of his forehead and no nose.
Only days to live… doctors think the baby’s deformities could be the result of medicines taken by the mother or from being exposed to radiation.
According to wikipedia, the birth defect is characterized by the failure of the embryonicprosencephalon to properly divide the orbits of the eye into two cavities.
Cyclopia is a congenital abnormality (birth defect) in which there is only one eye.
In a heart-wrenching incident, a baby was born with “One eye and no nose” at a private hospital in El Senbellawein, a north-eastern in Egypt.
Doctors believe he’s suffering from cyclopia – an unusual medical condition named after the one-eyed giants of Greek mythology – caused by radiation exposure in the womb. “The baby might not survive for a long time” the doctors said.
The infant has a full head of hair, large ears and other deformities on his body says Dr Ahmed Badruddin, who is supervising the baby’s condition. The deformity can occur four in every 1,000 pregnancies but, according to the Daily Mail, most of those pregnancies do not go to full term. It is more commonly seen in animals.
