Northern Lights Put On Spectacular UK Show
The Aurora Borealis may be visible across the United Kingdom on Wednesday night the Met Office say, having been heading south during the week with spectacular displays on Tuesday above Moray in northern Scotland.
THESE stunning pictures show the Northern Lights in all their glory reflecting in rock pools in the the far north of Scotland.
The Met Office said those in northern England, north Wales, northern and southern Ireland and Scotland had an increased likelihood of seeing the phenomenon, known as aurora borealis, because of a burst of solar wind.
According to the forecaster’s news blog, the sun goes through an 11-year solar cycle.
Those living in South Wales will have less chance of getting a view of the lights tonight, but it has not been completely ruled out.
“It depends on speed how we see it on Earth and what impact it has”.
Despite this then meteorologists are quietly confident that we will get the chance to see a few dazzling nocturnal activity in Britain, though as with all weather predictions then a lot is still left up to chance.
A tweet from the Met Office added: “The best chance of seeing it is after to dusk to three hours before dawn”. Look North between 10pm and 2am for the best results.
The lights appear in many forms from patches or scattered clouds of light to streamers, arcs, rippling curtains or shooting rays that light up the sky with an eerie glow.
