The Los Angeles Dodgers needed a win over the San Francisco Giants to wrap up an NL West division title in San Francisco on Tuesday night with a great pitching matchup of Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw.
Afterward, Bochy said something about Bumgarner he never had to utter last October: “I think the pitches caught up with him”. There have been some small successes, obviously, but I don’t know. “I know what that feels like”, Kershaw said. He is six strikeouts away from 300.
If you had one game to win, the numbers back up Greinke more than Arrieta.
They worked hard, they played with a lot of heart and they gave us a good show‒the good news is, it isn’t over yet.
With just five games remaining in the regular season, The Los Angeles Dodgers clichéd their playoff spot behind the brilliant one-hitter thrown by their ace, Clayton Kershaw. It’s kind of a sigh of relief.
“I have not spoken to anybody in that regard, because we have games to play”, Williams told the Junkies during his weekly appearance on 106.7 The Fan.
It’s the first time in franchise history that the Dodgers have been to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, let alone won three straight division titles. The Dodgers have earned a playoff berth in six of the last 10 seasons.
The Giants immediately offered a message on the main scoreboard: “CONGRATULATIONS, L.A. DODGERS!”
Los Angeles players pulled on their new NL West champion caps and T-shirts before the party began on the other side of AT&T Park than where clinching celebrations typically take place.
Believe it or not, this is the first time the Dodgers have ever won three straight division titles. “They are tough to beat”. Honestly, I didn’t want to lose this game tonight and have to go from there.
Trevor Brown hit a two-run double in the second against Greinke, then Corey Seager’s RBI single in the top of the third made it a one-run game before Ethier tied it in the ninth. The 26-year-old native of North Carolina has lost two of his last four decisions following a five-start winning streak but allowed a total of four runs over 15 frames in the defeats.
“It’s a fun mix, it’s a talented mix and hopefully it’s the right mix”, Kershaw said.
“Whether Kershaw and the Dodgers can triumph where they failed in recent seasons won”t be known for several more weeks. And last night’s performance was a pretty good example of what he’s been up to lately.
