Corbyn pledges autonomy for Scottish Labour
ABERAVON MP Stephen Kinnock has defended his leader Jeremy Corbyn over his stance on Britain’s nuclear deterrent.
Responding to Ms Eagle’s comment, Mr Corbyn told reporters: “We will be having a discussion and a debate about nuclear weapons. I am opposed to the holding of nuclear weapons”, Corbyn told the BBC.
He said the kingdoms of Saudi and Bahrain “abuse their own citizens and repress democratic rights” and that British weapons were being used “on the assault on Yemen”. “And I want all of our citizens to benefit from prosperity and success”.
The Labour leader also confirmed rumours that he gave his first conference speech as party leader wearing a borrowed tie.
Leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition Jeremy Corbyn has called for better support for the self-employed workforce and greater access to sick pay and maternity or paternity pay after outlining his manifesto at the Labour Party Conference in mid week.
“I do not believe in personal abuse of any sort”, he said.
Mr Corbyn, a lifelong campaigner on numerous issues, has come under close scrutiny as to whether he could appeal beyond his solid grassroots base in order to win an election. She added: “I don’t think a potential prime minister answering a question like that, in the way in which he did, is helpful”.
While the SNP won an unprecedented 56 of the 59 Scottish seats in the recent Westminster election after campaigning on an anti-austerity ticket, Mr Corbyn insisted: ” We mean it, we’re doing it because we mean it.
The comments from the outspoken businessman will fuel fears in the Labour party that it will be punished voters for its economic policies.
“What about Trident, Jeremy?” a scrum of journalists shouted at him as he made his way from the Scottish Parliament to a nearby cafe.
Mr Foster, who lost eight relations in the Holocaust and whose grandfather was in Dachau, said he had spoken to Mr Corbyn at Labour’s gala dinner ahead of the LFI reception.
“I will certainly, when the House is back, make people aware that I’m very happy to discuss defence, as I have always been with people within the Labour Party and indeed previously they did consult me and ask my view”.
Corbyn also welcomed the increasing number of ethnic minorities who have found home in the Labour party since the leadership election. “We are not in the era of the cold war anymore”, he said. “We’re more interested in the long-term future of our economy than this political spin that he’s developing”.
