Kashmir issue to be tackled through back-channel diplomacy:Pak

Pervaiz Rashid said it is Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who raised Kashmir issue at all worldwide forums including General Assembly, adding that “PML-N government has always raised Kashmir issue at the Security Council, worldwide platforms and the United Nations (UN)”.
I think diplomats of Pakistan have displayed the master diplomacy by engaging Indian premier by not mentioning Kashmir in the first meeting. However, both the countries needed such a meeting.
“The two sides also agreed to take up these issues under the back-channel Track-II mechanism for better understanding of each other’s point of view”, Aziz added.
However the Minister said only a peaceful, secure and prosperous Pakistan could support the cause of Kashmir in a befitting manner while a terrorism-hit country could not help Kashmir cause.
He said the statement was drafted jointly and nothing was omitted from Pakistan’s draft. This followed other issues including Siachin and now water.
Rasheed said that Kashmir issue needs to be resolved and resolutions are there regarding this matter.
He stressed the need to resolve all outstanding issues gradually, not in a ‘single jump.’.
When questioned about advantages of Pakistan’s SCO membership, Sartaj Aziz said Russian Federation and China were developing Eurasia and had widened their collaboration from security to economy and anti- terrorism and -narcotics. “If required, fresh details will also be provided to Pakistan”, said a government official.
