McDonald’s gets complaints that new toy uses curse words
Parents are complaining that the McDonald’s toy Minions spew out vile sayings instead.
In promotion of the new film Minions (a spinoff of Despicable Me), McDonald’s has been serving up tiny plastic versions of the lovable yellow characters, complete with the ability to speak a few giggling, jibberish phrases. Any perceived similarities to words used within the english language are purely coincidental.’.
“Oh I see what its saying, its say what the f***”, he said.
The fast-food restaurant introduced a Happy Meal on July 3 with toys inspired by the movie “Minions.”
If only all McDonald’s Happy Meal toys were seen in the same light as some of the most popular ones of all-time, such as Tiny Toons and Changeables, the Golden Arches might be doing a lot better.
Fox News on July 10 suggests that this is either a “brilliant marketing campaign” or McDonald’s has “egg on their face”, so which is it?
We asked people on the street what they thought the toy was saying.
As part of the release of Minions, McDonald’s has launched a range of tie-in toys – but it appears they might be NSFW, let alone suitable for children. The recordings are literally nonsense words meant to sound amusing. It’s similar to the phenomenon in which fans of Taylor Swift’s song “Blank Space” swore they heard her singing “All the lonely Starbucks lovers” rather than “Got a long list of ex-lovers”.
“It turned out to be a toy that made a decision to talk profanity”, Bradley Merten, a Florida grandfather, told local Orlando, Fla., ABC affiliate WFTV. See if you can hear swearing coming out of this irritating little toy.
McDonald’s is aware of the complaints and says it regrets any confusion but there’s nothing profane or inappropriate about the toy.
