Vizio unveils new Dolby Vision Ultra HD TVs, one for $130000
The Reference Series TVs are both already available from the Vizio website and the 65 inch model is nearly certainly going to be found in at least a few brick and mortar retail locations.
You won’t find these sets in stores just yet, but if you want one, you can submit an order request on VIZIO’s web site for either model. It may have taken the company some time to ship the models but it has been worth the wait.
In recent years, the company has attempted to make its E and M Series 4K Ultra HDTVs available to the A/V specialty/custom channels using distributors like Ingram Micro, but those lines had much thinner margins.
Once again, the two Reference Series models are by no means anything like Vizio’s budget TVs, either in price or some of their more powerful specs.
This new Vizio TV was introduced to the public at the CES showcase last year.

The 65-inch class model will be offered at $5,999.99 and the 120-inch model at $129,999.99. Both sets are said to output up to 800-nits of peak brightness, and offer full-array LED backlighting and 384 Active LED Zones that produces deep black levels. As far as we can tell, all the new UHD Blu-ray players will support the SMPTE HDR standard, but it will be up to each manufacturer to decide whether to support Dolby Vision as well. But those prices include white glove delivery and wall-mount installation, assuming you have a wall that will support this 385-pound, 107-inch wide behemoth. And the VIZIO reference series has better pixels in the form of extended color gamut and higher contrast (a greater difference between blackest black and brightest white).
Films that support Dolby Vision are limited for now, with some Warner Brothers films including The Lego Movie being available in the format, while Sony has also announced some films will be available soon. Home Entertainment continues its steady pipeline of remastered 4K Ultra HD titles with Dolby Vision to include San Andreas, Mad Max: Fury Road, Magic Mike XXL, Jupiter Ascending, Man of Steel, The Great Gatsby and more. While HDR video content is currently limited, Vudu is soon launching select HDR titles – more on that below. “The picture quality achieved with Dolby Vision on the VIZIO Reference Series is literally jaw-dropping and establishes a new level of excellence for the industry”, says Matt McRae, chief technology officer, VIZIO. Unlike most TVs, which can only reproduce Rec. 709-the long-time color space standard-the Reference Series features Ultra Color Spectrum technology for a wider color gamut, with a quantum dot panel in the 65-inch class model, rendering colors closer to the range a human eye can see.
“VIZIO and Dolby have worked tirelessly together to make true High Dynamic Range a reality for consumers”.
Vizio and Dolby Laboratories (NYSE: DLB) will be showcasing its all-new VIZIO Reference Series, a High Dynamic Range (HDR) solution with Dolby Vision playback technology at the upcoming CEDIA Expo 2015 in Dallas.
Vizio says some Dolby Vision content, namely certain movies from Warner Bros., will be immediately available via the Vudu streaming service. They’re the first TVs to support Dolby Vision, a High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology which allows video content to approach the color spectrum and brightness range of real life.
Also included is a Spatial Scaling Engine for 1080p upconversion to 4K UHD resolution.
