PS4 Price Drop Now Official In North America
Things could shift heavily in the PlayStation 4’s favour once more though; the system’s now received an official North American Price cut, following its Japanese one just weeks ago.
PlayStation 4 owners were a bit surprised yesterday when they turned on their consoles to find Destiny: The Taken King on their system dashboard, even if they hadn’t actually purchased the game.
The new prices, which will take effect on Friday, are $349.99 in the US and C$429.99 ($329.34) in Canada.
Non-Destiny PS4 gamers spotted this unusual occurrence and reported it on NeoGAF, where it was revealed to be Sony’s new “curated content” recommendation system that automatically adds suggestions based on your previously downloaded games.
“Our goal at PlayStation has always been to offer the best place to play at a compelling value to gamers”, said Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, in an interview.
“The United States price drop follows a leak from USA retailer Target, which placed an image on its website proclaiming a “$50 price drop on the PS4” in big letters next to box art for the upcoming Uncharted: “Nathan Drake Collection hardware bundle.
In the U.S., the PlayStation 4 will be cheaper from October 9.
Lastly, the National Hockey League 16 PS4 Bundle (500GB HDD) will cost $429.99 CAD (MSRP); but that is only available in Canada.
A Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars PS4 bundle will sell for $399.99 and a Star Wars Battlefront bundle will sell for $349.99. As well as dropping the price of the basic console package, Sony has also cut the price of a few game bundles it will be launching in the coming days, weeks and months.
