Apple sells record 13m iPhones in opening weekend
According to the company’s press release, there are more than 13 million handsets are sold in a span of just 3 days.
In spite of the increased sales, an analysis from Fiksu shows the iPhone 6s lagging behind adoption of the iPhone 6 a year ago by nearly 40 percent.
Even before they launched on Friday, Apple said that it was expecting the iPhone 6s to smash through the sales of its predecessor, the iPhone 6.
Apple, again, set a company record by improving upon the previous record of 10 million iPhones sold in the first weekend of 2014.
Though it may look the same as the old iPhone 6, the new model actually changes things considerably inside.
While pundits and analysts often like to claim that interest in the iPhone has already peaked, Apple’s sales figures continue to prove otherwise.
The record number included iPhone sales from pre-orders and in-store sales from the past weekend. The phones are also built from stronger aluminium, to avoid any repeat of the “bendgate” controversy of previous year.
The Sci-Tech Today cited the features of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus that leap it sales so high. Announced earlier this month, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus come in four colours: Silver, Gold, Space Grey, and a new Rose Gold Aluminium finish. The latest models now have a 12-megapixel camera, a custom-designed 64-bit chip smartphone chip, a longer lasting battery and a faster, more secure fingertip touch ID system and a 3-D touch screen.
The sales figures include units from China, which is becoming an increasingly important market for the company.
The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be released on 10 October in several more countries, including Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
