The Great British Bake Off Scandal: Are insiders betting on the victor?
Audience share wise 58.8% of the last nights television watchers were tuned to the cookery contest.
Nadiya, who beat Ian Cumming and Tamal Ray in a closely fought final, said she didn’t feel particularly nervous during it.
As for the moment her name was announced as the victor…
But despite his “colossal curving carrot cake” getting praise from the judges in the final showstopper challenge, Nadiya’s My Big Fat British Wedding cake, which she made to make up for not having one at her marriage in Bangladesh, won them over.
Nadiya, Tamal and Ian have taken on over 27 challenges set by judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, and with just three tasks left to impress, we’re looking at the past bakes and how well they’ve done throughout the whole competition.
Nancy, who now lives in Barton-upon-Humber, but still considers herself to be an “East Yorkshire lass”, believes Ian is the weakest of the three. His timing problems could very well be his downfall in the finals, but despite being adventurous with his flavours, he has yet to put out a truly spectacular bake.
“I think the only thing missing was banter, it was more competitive and didn’t have as many personalities – it wasn’t as light-hearted as past year. This is purely to get a clearer idea of what kind of baker you are”. “You have to keep your cool”. “She nailed that final and it was the best tasting final we ever had”, said Paul.
“My family are constantly telling me that they are very proud of me, and that really helps me through”, she said. “In the first episode I looked around at everyone else’s Black Forest Gateaux and felt out of my depth”. “I am still one now”.
According to a report in The Sun, a few people “in the know” have been placing large bets on one of the contestants, leading to allegations of a “scandal” at the BBC.
Nadiya, 30, has perfected her baking skills over the last ten years, after putting her career on hold to concentrate on raising her three children.
Nadiya went into the final as the bookmakers’ favourite to win. They’re a bit too professional and hard.
“Afterwards, she said: “I went into the tent as the smallest baker at 4ft 11″ but I walked out feeling a giant”.
Nadiya joins previous Bake Off winners including Edd Kimber, Jo Wheatley and John Whaite. “I have never been tested to that extent, or had that pressure before, but I realised I could be pretty stoic about it all”. I am really intrigued to see how it pans out.
After nine years as a stay-at-home mum, she said it is “my time now for an adventure” and has begun studying for an Open University degree in childhood and youth studies.
