Kylie Jenner Cornrows Instagram Feud With Amandla Stenberg
Instead, the 16-year-old Hunger Games star called Jenner out by leaving a comment below the picture that blasted the reality star for appropriating black culture to her benefit. “I woke up like disss”, she wrote in the caption, quoting Beyoncé’s “Flawless”.
But Amandla saw the snap and soon commented with her own feelings.
“Kylie replied: “@amandlastenberg Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…
Follow Rebecca on Instagram. “She feels it’s an unprovoked attack, and possibly something that stems from Jaden turning her against her”.
Amandla, who plays Rue in The Hunger Games, went to a prom with Jaden Smith in May – and there we were thinking Kylie and him were best mates.
Jenner carried on with her day seemingly unfazed, Instagramming photos of a shoe splurge and posting more selfies without her controversial cornrows.
But dragging in Jaden Smith instead of confronting Stenberg’s accusation is not going to help Kylie’s case.
Kylie’s sister, Kendall Jenner, came under fire in April of 2014 when Marie Claire also dressed the young star in cornrows and described the look as “epic” and “bold”, as if Kendall and that magazine had just invented it.
Granted, the 90s (and some 2000s) were a weird time for hair – but with the return of dungarees and crop tops, are cornrows making a comeback and are they hair to stay? Do you think the feud between Amandla and Kylie was unprovoked?
How should their conversation have gone had it been carried out in person, privately? “She didn’t mean any disrespect to African American culture by braiding her hair in cornrows, and thinks it’s a fashion that suits her given her own dark complexion”.
