‘The Voice’ recap: Blind auditions end as coaches fill their teams
Dustin Christensen began the night with a soulful rendition of “Downtown Train”, and all four coaches wanted him for their teams, making this the fourth of five episodes to start with a four-chair turn.
Brown cried when she saw all of the judges turn their chairs for her, and they all put up quite the fight to have her on their teams. At this point in the blind auditions phase Shelton, Stefani and Levine all had zero spots left on their team and left Williams as the only coach able to push his button.
Sydney Rhame, “Photograph”: Sydney Rhame is only 16 years old but her voice is low, rich and passionate and she has so much control of this performance, which was truly dynamic. A few other stand-outs were Blind Joe, Braiden Sunshine, sisters Andi and Alex, and Siahna Im.
Let’s get a quick look at the artists each judge has chosen. Shelton hollered, “Please pick me!” even as Vachal was still singing her song, and at the end, the coaches gave her a standing ovation. Shelby noted that Potter is “a rock singer, but she’s also collaborated with Kenny Chesney, who’s a country singer”. She sounded fantastic, and Pharrell messed up by not turning.
Flattered by the comparison to Neil Diamond, Dustin joins Team Blake.
The 26-year-old Filipino-American descent singer from Brooklyn New York have passed the Blind Auditions of The Voice Season 9.
He sang “Bright Lights” by Gary Clark Jr., and Levine turned. Shelton called her a “superstar” and compared her to Norah Jones and Colbie Caillat. The audience all told him to pick Shelton as his coach, and that was exactly what he did. On Facebook, she shared how honored she feels now that Williams is now her coach.
Team Gwen: Braiden Sunshine, Chase Kerby, Alex Kandel, Ellie Lawrence, Hanna Ashbrook, Jeffery Austin, Korin Bukowski, Summer Schappell, Kota Wade, Lyndsey Elm, Tim Atlas and Noah Jackson.
Then Blaine Mitchell chose between Gwen and Blake after “Drops of Jupiter”, and went for Team Blake.
And even when she went with Pharrell, Blake insisted: ‘Even though I didn’t get Amy on my team – I am so happy she is on this show – I am so impressed with her. I really hope I get a chance to steal her in the future’. I’ve had people here for no less than 12 hours because everything that came out was good. And I’m so pleased to be able to say, because you’re so great – my team is full!’
With the live auditions now over, next week is the start of the Battle rounds – with the special guest advisers being Selena Gomez, Brad Paisley, rock legend John Fogerty, and Missy Elliott.
