Twitter misfire puts Walker into 2016 presidential race prematurely
The tweet, originally published at 4:49 p.m. EST, is no longer visible from Walker’s Twitter feed, although it is still viewable from a direct link.
WASHINGTON (AP) – How excited is Scott Walker about running for president? Gov. Scott Walker’s bid for presidency was prematurely announced on Twitter this past Friday. “Are you? Join our team today” along with a photo of the Wisconsin governor with the following unmistakable message: “SCOTT WALKER IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT”.
The tweet was later deleted.
Walker is expected to officially announce his candidacy Monday at a rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
AshLee Strong, Walker’s press secretary, later said: ‘We’re happy Twitter confirmed this wasn’t Team Walker’s post and are investigating what happened.’.
The Walker squad reacted to the disaster by saying, “Stay designed for Governor Walker’s awareness on Monday at 5pm Count”.
Walker will sign the new Wisconsin state budget into law on Sunday afternoon, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, keeping his pledge to finish the budget process before his presidential announcement. Only Ohio governor John Kasich among the relatively mainstream candidates is yet to formally declare.
