Matt Holliday out, Joc Pederson starts, Ryan Braun in – Major League Baseball
Braun was named to the NL squad as an injury replacement for Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday, Major League Baseball announced on Sunday.
According to the Orange County Register, Pederson will become the first-ever Dodgers rookie to start the All-Star Game. But it’s his first since a 65-game suspension cut short his 2013 season, the result of Braun’s connection with the Biogenesis scandal. Batting.272, Braun has also blasted 15 home runs with 12 stolen bases displaying his versatility encompassed by both finesse and power. Holliday, selected to his seventh All-Star Game by fan vote, has been sidelined since June 8 with a quadriceps injury and elected to sit out All-Star Weekend to recover. He was an All-Star every year from 2008-12 before dealing with a nagging thumb issue the last two seasons. It will be Braun’s 6th appearance in the mid-summer classic.
Right after Sunday’s game against the Brewers, he’ll fly out to Cincinnati, where he’ll take part in Monday’s Home Run Derby.
