Arsene Wenger: Arsenal legend convinced me to snap up midfield star
Cazorla has emerged as one of Arsenal’s most important players from a more reserved positions in recent times after joining from Malaga for £16million in 2012.
Santi Cazorla’s future at Arsenal lies in the centre of the pitch due to his vision and ability to use both feet, manager Arsene Wenger has said.
The Spain global has received plaudits since his arrival on English shores and Wenger, who played him on the flanks upon the arrival of club’s record signing Mesut Ozil two years ago, also says Cazorla’s experience will be vital in a central role.
Wenger has claimed that although he was already aware of Cazorla, he wanted a second opinion from verteran playmaker Pires.
“I think I first saw him when he was about 20 or 21”, the Frenchman told his club’s site. Sometimes I asked Robert, ‘Are there any good players there?’
“I’ve been eating at the same table as Santi Cazorla and he keeps reminding me that Arsenal beat us 3-0 at the weekend”, Mata said speaking to Cadena Ser.
Santi Cazorla has an average pass accuracy of 91% in the Premier League this season.
The change has been vindicated, with the Spaniard forming an impressive duo alongside Francis Coquelin.
Cazorla, who has started the season in excellent form, is now with the Spain squad as they prepare for their European Championship qualifiers against Luxembourg and Ukraine. Arsenal’s 3-0 hammering of Manchester United means the Red Devils have to endure the banter for the upcoming few weeks.
“It’s because of his technical quality and his intelligence”.
