Ducks, Chris Stewart agree to 1-year, $1.7M deal
The Anaheim Ducks signed right winger Chris Stewart to a one-year contract Sunday. Stewart tallied 14 goals and 36 points last season spent with the Sabres and Wild.
After scoring three goals and 11 points in 20 games for Minnesota, Stewart was held to two assists in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games before sustaining an upper-body injury in Game 2 of the Western Conferenced Second Round against the Chicago Blackhawks.
At 6-foot-2 and 231 pounds, Stewart’s size and penchant for physical play helps fill what Beleskey brought to the Ducks before signing a five-year, $19-million deal with Boston on July 1.
Stewart also has played for Colorado and St. Louis in his seven-year National Hockey League career.
The 27-year-old Toronto native has collected 129 goals and 135 assists in 463 appearances for the Avalanche, Blues, Sabres and Wild since 2008.
Devante Smith-Pelly was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens for lighter, faster forward Jiri Sekac around the trade deadline – and then fellow power forward prospect Emerson Etem was dealt to the New York Rangers for another speedy forward, Carl Hagelin.
