Ryan Tannehill denies taunting scout-team players about their paychecks
On Monday, after Joe Philbin was canned by the Dolphins, a report claimed that Philbin needed to inform the practice squad to go straightforward on Tannehill, in order to get his confidence up. That report, made by The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, said Tannehill told practice squad players to enjoy their practice squad paychecks and trophy.
Tannehill denies saying anything about a paycheck, although he essentially confirmed the rest of the story. Tannehill admitted that he said a few things to practice squad players that he shouldn’t have said, but he insists he never brought up money.
Is Tannehill upset about it?
After Wednesday’s practice Tannehill called the paycheck part of that report “slanderous” and “sickening”. They practice with the team but do not participate in game day. “On top of that, just the fact that something inside the locker room gets out obviously upsets me as well”.
Tannehill added: “Am I happy about everything I said? No. I hold myself to a higher standard than to take a shot at something like that, especially guys I work with everyday and respect how they go about their business”. I know everyone in this building works hard every single day. “I’m very passionate about this game”.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill speaks during a press conference at Allianz Park in London, Friday October. 2, 2015. But you’ll never hear a teammate say anything bad about him.
“He doesn’t deserve that”, Pouncey said.
“Yeah I’m upset”, Tannehill said.
