Novak Djokovic wins 2nd straight Wimbledon title

The two tennis masters are at the top of their game right now as Federer goes for his eighth All-England Tennis championship, while Djokovic attempts to win his second in a row and third overall. “I’m right there. Djokovic said last year’s win over Federer helped put his career back on track after he had gone five majors without adding to his tally which stood at six at the time. “He’s been good for the game”, Federer said about Djokovic, who beat him in five sets in the 2014 final at the All England Club.

“It was a little bit of a rushed rain delay”.

“Of course I would like to have won but Novak played really well”. “I’ve been serving very well in this tournament”.

In Fridays semifinals, Murray got a taste of just how well the seemingly ageless Federer still can play — and, in particular, serve.

Djokovic suddenly had three set points. Djokovic was the more aggressive player in the last half of the match, playing more and more of his shots in front of the baseline.

“I think Novak played great, not only today but the whole two weeks, the whole year and the year before that”, Federer said.

The Wimbledon final was now an even game. He’s won two majors this year, giving him nine for his career.

Djokovic was playing in his 17th major final compared to Federer’s 26th. He was 4-of-10 in converting break points, while Federer was 1-of-7.

He then had to save seven set points in the second set before bravely levelling the contest.

The tiebreaker ended flatly on Federer’s double-fault, part of a run in which Djokovic took 14 of 15 points.

At 12/10, it was the longest tiebreak in a Wimbledon final since 2000 when Pat Rafter faced Pete Sampras with the set taking 65 gripping minutes to complete. Even though there’s a retractable roof over Centre Court, officials insist this is an outdoor tournament and do all they can to keep it that way.
