Portugal progress to Euro 2016 with win over Denmark
Portugal are guaranteed a spot in France but there is plenty of work to do in the coming months to try and find a way to take a few of the weight of expectation off their talisman. Portugal, in stark contrast to their recent exploits in major tournament qualifying, needed only a draw to secure safe passage to Euro 2016.
Moutinho came closest to breaking the deadlock in an uneventful first half but his rasping drive from 25 yards whistled just over the top. Tiago was first to the rebound, but Schmeichel produced another fine save to deny him.
If Cristiano Ronaldo scores anytime for Portugal, then it is priced at 8/11.
Both sides prevented each other from creating any clear-cut chances in the opening half an hour, but a mistake gifted Ronaldo with the ball on the edge of the box in the 33rd minute, although Moutinho blasted his shot over the bar after being teed up.
Not to be outdone, Bernardo Silva burst past several defenders after an intelligent decoy run by Cedric, and just missed the far post as he lost his balance.
João Moutinho got the only goal of the game as Portugal confirmed top spot in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group I with a victory that leaves Denmark’s fate in Albania’s hands. Denmark tried to get back in the game, and Kvist finally sent in a decent shot in the 76th minute, but it was straight at Rui Patricio. Serbia have the talent to be much closer to Portugal Denmark and Albania but lack of discipline cost them here in this group, that doesnt mean they cant play spoiler and beat Albania on Thursday though.
