“Lower-income users or those of a lower socioeconomic status use Twitter more as a communication means among themselves”, Daniel Preotiuc-Pietro, the post-doctoral researcher who led the study, said in a press release. “Moments helps you find the best of Twitter as easily as tapping an icon – regardless of who you follow”. But it doesn’t have to be.
Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has launched a fresh feature, which is known as “Moments.’ It is a tab that will gather the most laudable news articles in one place”.
It’s not customized for each user at the moment, but the content is assembled by Twitter with contributions coming from partners such as Bleacher Report, Buzzfeed, Entertainment Weekly, the New York Times and Getty Images.
It forms part of Twitter’s attempts to make its service more appealing for novice users or those that have used Twitter and then left, feeling a lack of engagement. The blog post however did not mention when it would be rolled out to the rest of the world.
Twitter offers certain features that can be experienced only on Twitter and no other platform. When you follow a “Moment”, Twitter will temporarily insert tweets about that particular topic into your feed from people you don’t actually follow; as soon as the event is over, you’ll stop seeing tweets from those people.
Moments are assembled by Twitter’s curation team and are intended for a general audience rather than customized for a user. Moreover, the company recently expanded the buy button on tweets to more closely integrate e-commerce on its platform. Users can even browse older or less popular stories by clicking section headings in the Moments tab, which will open to an even greater abundance of stories.
The statement made by Weil came in response to a question about whether Twitter had any plans of its potential sale to tech giant Google or any other company.
