Florida State’s Cook, Miami’s Yearby ex-teammates and off-field friends, now
Fisher also touched on running back Dalvin Cook’s status.
A hamstring injury sustained by ACC rushing leader Dalvin Cook in last week’s 24-16 victory over Wake Forest has made him a huge question mark as the No. 12-ranked Seminoles prepare to play Miami on Saturday (8 p.m., ABC).
Miami coach Al Golden said the one thing he has noticed on film from Cook this season is that he is stronger and running through more tackles.
“He’s day-to-day”, Fisher said, via the Palm Beach Post.
Cook did not practice on Monday as the 12th-ranked Seminoles ramped up preparations for Saturday’s game against Miami. He was in for a couple plays against Wake Forest during a first-half series. “[Cook] is a guy who heals very quickly and plays tough … just got to wait day-by-day and see how it goes”. Mario Pender, who had 30 carries for 140 yards the first three games, remains hospitalized due to complications from a collapsed lung that he suffered during practice two weeks ago.
Yearby originally committed to Florida State before eventually landing at Miami.
Last week Cook scored from 94 yards on his first carry, which is the third longest touchdown run in school history. Cook went on to top 100 yards in the three most important games of the season, against Florida (144), Georgia Tech in the ACC championship game (177) and Oregon in a College Football Playoff semifinal (103). Florida State is now a nine point favorite over the rival Hurricanes. Yearby will take to the field Saturday with 424 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 106 yards per game.
Despite a lack of backs last week, Fisher was pleased with how the offense performed against Wake Forest.
Golson has been turnover-free so far at FSU after struggling in that area last season as Notre Dame’s quarterback. Cook, who has been questionable most of the week due to a strained left hamstring, was a Florida commit before switching to Florida State.
FSU starting linebacker Terrance Smith will not be available against Miami.
