Patriots give RB Dion Lewis two-year extension
Mike Loyko notes that Lewis’ contract extension is very similar to the deal running back Danny Woodhead signed in 2010, just a couple months into his Patriots career.
Four weeks into a season that many expected would be tough-sledding with Tom Brady initially suspended for the first four games, the New England Patriots are sitting at 3-0 coming off a bye week.
So when the Patriots came to him with a two-year extension that would carry him through the 2017 season, Lewis agreed. “They gave me a chance, so it’s for me to repay them as well”.
As comps, Shane Vereen signed a three-year $12.35M deal with the Giants in the offseason.
But as Lewis essentially explained Thursday, when you’ve spent the last two years either on season-ending injured reserve with a broken leg (2013, Browns), getting cut twice (2014, Browns, Colts) and then wondering if your career is over, perspective is altered.
There’s a good chance Lewis is already on a fantasy roster and given how well the Patriots are playing right now, the sneaky veteran rusher should be in lineups week to week. Lewis received a 0,000 signing bonus, Yates reported. “Still got a lot of work to do”. “Trying to stay focused on this week and get ready for this week”.
