Pacquiao hints at final fight before retirement, senate bid
If Pacquiao wins, he’ll be retiring from the sport.
Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Russian Federation are the only countries to remain unbeaten after two days of competition, while hosts Qatar have now notched up two World Championship wins for the first time following Nuraydin’s victory over Bosnia’s Bosnjak. And that fight, in all likelihood, could happen in Doha.
Earlier this week, Pacquiao talked about his political ambitions, a career that would likely make returning to the ring impossible past May of next year. “I think I’m ready [to retire]”. “I’ve been in boxing for more than 20 years”. It was a nice surprise to see so many Filipinos here, it kind of felt like a home away from home.
Pacquiao, who was quick to congratulate Ladon after the bout, said: “It’s awesome to be here in Qatar for the World Boxing Championships”.
Filipino boxing legend Emmanuel “Manny” Dapidran Pacquiao is getting ready to hang his gloves and he definitely wants to do it in style. If you are a senator, your focus should only be your job and your family.
“I will be standing for Congress and that is a big responsibility”.
I would love to have my next fight here in Qatar, and my team is now working towards that.
Being a politician and a public servant is different than boxing. I believe I can now help more people, especially the poor and the needy. “The atmosphere of the championships is excellent and I hope I can reach my goals in Doha”, said Rasulov after the bout.
The Filipino is in Qatar at the invitation of AIBA president, Ching-Kuo Wu, a personal friend.
After landing here in the early hours yesterday, Pacquiao visited Corniche to have a view of the city’s skyline before holding a meeting with Dr al-Kuwari, Dr Wu and al-Kazim.
Following confirmation of Pacquaio’s attendance at the Championships on Tuesday (October 6), organisers are said to have witnessed a surge in sales for the event. Putting Pacquiao back in with Brandon Rios or Tim Bradley won’t do much for him, and will probably result in a fight that generates between 300,000 and 450,000 PPV buys.
“The people are really warm and friendly”. Apparently Manny knew this as well, and his information came from the mightiest source of them all: God.
Al-Kazim added: “It’s awesome to see the universal appeal of Manny Pacquaio and the effect he has”. After all he is turning a new leaf in life.
