Threat causes Southern Oregon University to cancel classes
A threatening message turned up in a Southern Oregon University facility, prompting school officials to shutter the campus on Wednesday.
“Due to an unconfirmed threat now under investigation by Ashland Police Department, the main SOU Ashland campus will be closed Wednesday, October 7th”.
A post on SOU’s Facebook page alleges the threat came in the form of a handwritten note that was found in a campus building.
In awe of the recent events, the Oregon State University has reinforced all security measures and police officers were immediately called to deal with possible threats.
Brown said recent events have heightened concerns for campus safety.
The SOU/RCC campus in Medford will remain open.
SOU sits about 120 miles south of Umpqua Community College (UCC) in Roseburg, where a gunman killed nine people and injured seven more last week.
Before the note was discovered, campus authorities planned to hold active shooter training courses Wednesday for students, staff and community members. Ashland High School summoned police after a potential threat and students were held in school until the threat was cleared.
