The success of the Colts running game will hinge on whether or not Luck can get into a rhythm with a few short, high-percentage completions to force the defense to respect the possibility of a play down field. Now the NFL Odds for the game have the Texans favored to pick up the victory.

Houston’s defense that was so apparently absent last week must make a return this week if they are to stifle Andrew Luck and the Colts’ offense. Luck is dealing with a shoulder injury while Hasselbeck missed Tuesday’s practice due to an illness.

Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer, who entered midway through the second quarter, engineered four scoring drives and threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-31 passing. They had brought in Johnson last week to serve as Matt Hasselbeck’s backup with Luck sidelined by a shoulder injury. The Colts will struggle to defeat even average teams if Hasselbeck has to carry the load to that extent. The Colts have never described the exact nature of Luck’s injury, but have said there is “zero truth” to reports that Luck has a partial shoulder subluxation.

The Houston Texans host the Indianapolis Colts tonight. Additionally, Andre Johnson has proven to be a bust, for fantasy this year, even when Luck starts. In that span, Luck has been hit while attempting passes 90 times, which is the most in the NFL.

Mallett looked good early, helping the Texans into the red zone. Gore and Johnson were the big signings for the team this offseason.

The Texans special teams have been horrid through four games and there’s no reason to think that changes tonight. The Colts have nine games between games, and their contest after Thursday night is a showdown against the New England Patriots at home. With the best player for the Colts hobbled, Houston could have a legitimate chance at grabbing the win in a weak division that’s up for grabs. QBs in the league who started last week but weren’t in the lineup for Week 1, went 0-5 ATS in Week 4, including Hasselbeck and Mallett… Luck has completed a total of 65 passes for the team.
