HBO NOW Comes to Roku
For Roku users, the wait for HBO’s standalone streaming video service is finally over. Roku announced Thursday that customers in the US can now add the HBO Now streaming channel to their Roku players and TVs. Should you have reservations, there’s a free 30-day trial. You can then purchase a subscription or start your free trial offer. That includes current hit series like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, True Detective, and Ballers as well as every episode of every season of classic shows likeThe Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, and Sex and the City. This goes against a few prior rumours floating around which suggested Roku wasn’t going to get HBO Now. However HBO Now has since expanded to many other platforms, including Android TV, and Amazon and Android Fire devices.
HBO NOW is a $14.99 per month subscription service that includes all of HBO’s content from the past and present, in addition to movies, sports events, documentaries, specials and more. (This generally covers Roku models released after May 2011.) The launch was first confirmed with Roku by CordCuttersNews, after spotting an HBO Now logo on the box of the upcoming Roku 4.
Now, Roku will get a first-hand feel for how popular the app is amongst its users.
The service comes just in time to use with Roku’s new ultra high-definition (UHD or 4K) media streamer, the Roku 4, which came out earlier this week.
