Meet Moana, Disney’s Newest Princess
The film has already landed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (who better suited to portray a demigod named Maui in the film than he?), who shared how thrilled he was about Cravalho’s casting on Instagram.
And in traditional Disney animation fashion, this will be a musical adventure, and Dwayne Johnson will actually be singing in the movie as well, according to his new, young co-star anyway. It certainly advertises itself as having a princess unlike the dozens that have come before, which People Magazine profiled in a first look posted online on October 7.
Disney does not always cast voice actors and actress who are of the same ethnicity as the character they will be voicing (i.e. Aladdin), but that is not the case with their latest Hawaiian tale, Moana. “She’s fearless, she is so empowered, she knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to get it”.
Moana is set to hit theaters November 23, 2016.

The CG-animated adventure is set three thousand years ago, during a time when sailors suddenly stopped exploring the mysterious and magical seas of Oceania. “I am proudly half-Samoan and half-black”.

Fourteen year old Auli’i Cravalho of Oahu will voice the titular maiden, who goes on a quest in ancient Hawaii.
Auli’i Cravalho is living the life that little girls have always dreamed of.
“When I first heard that there was going to be an audition to potentially play the role of Moana, I thought, ‘No way that could be me, ‘” Cravalho explained.
“She can project vulnerability, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all by the challenges ahead, and her Polynesian background has helped shape her connection to family, hard work and music”, director John Musker told Forbes.
“I am very excited about that, my gosh”.
