Train hero Spencer Stone stabbed in California, official says
Sacramento Police Deputy Chief Ken Bernard said at a news conference that Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone was stabbed multiple times Thursday and had very significant injuries that appeared non-life-threatening.
Spencer Stone, hailed as hero after French train terror attack, has been stabbed in Sacramento, California.
Bernard said the stabbing was “related to a nightclub incident” involving Stone’s crowd and another group of people.
He was listed in stable condition at UC Davis Medical Center, and officials said he was expected to pull through.
Authorities are investigating after, they said, two men were shot at a municipal pool in Tamarac, Wednesday night. No arrests have been made.
Although the Air Force has identified Stone as the stabbing victim, Sacramento police have not officially named the person who was stabbed. He was given a Purple Heart medal at a September 17 Pentagon ceremony.
Skarlatos tweeted Thursday: “Everybody send prayers out to the Stone family today”.
Back in August, Stone and his two childhood friends – Oregon Army National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler – tackled a gunman on a train while traveling together from Amsterdam to Paris on Aug. 22.
He was stabbed while responding to that incident and was the most seriously injured of the three, cut in the hand with a box cutter.
They won accolades from the presidents of France and the USA for their efforts. French President Francois Hollande awarded them the Legion d’Honneur.
