Firefighting planes briefly grounded by drone over Southern California wildfire
Officials said heavy brush is involved.
Another wildfire in San Timoteo Canyon burned 70 acres of unincorporated land between Redlands and Moreno Valley.
According to a CHP incident log, the fire started near the spot where a motorcyclist went off the right shoulder of the highway.
The second fire is about 2 miles south of Angelus Oaks and was 1/4 acre as of 3:10 p.m. It is dubbed the Motorcycle fire.
Officials executed “precautionary evacuations” at four homes, he said. So far, 12 engines, five helicopters, and two fixed wing air tankers have responded to the fire.
“Whenever that happens, we have to divert our aircraft, which we did do”, said Bob Pool, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
Before firefighters arrived, a passerby noticed the flames and attempted to break the restaurant’s windows to make sure there was no one inside, the news release said.
The Mill 2 Fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m.in Mill Creek Canyon near State Highway 38 and Bryant Street, according to the U.S. Forest Service InciWeb website.
The fire was first reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday. It burned at least 35 acres and was fueled by chaparral.
The tankers had to halt retardant drops for a short period because a drone was spotted above the fire, authorities reported.
