Mets’ Cespedes leaves game with bruised fingers

Center fielder Yoenis Cespedes, the key to the New York Mets’ offensive turnaround this season, left the game Wednesday after being hit in the left hand by a pitch.

Mets reliever Hansel Robles, who was suspended for three games for “intentionally throwing at the head area” of Cameron Rupp of the Phillies, will appeal the suspension, he said on Friday.

The Mets have no shortage of outfielders to replace Cespedes in the short-term – Curtis Granderson and Michael Conforto are starters with Juan Lagares, Michael Cuddyer and Kirk Nieuwenhuis among the reserves. All of this should help fuel the creation of the next great Phillies core, one that can propel them back to the playoffs.

Needing eight pitchers, the Phillies would manufacture a 7-5 victory before 15,201 in Citizens Bank Park, then would worry later how to make it through what figures to be a wet end to the final week of a soggy season.
