Child, 7, struck, killed by auto in Palm Coast, troopers say
Florida Highway Patrol reports that 7-year-old Kymora Christian was crossing a street Wednesday morning when she was hit.
The child was attempting to cross Whippoorwill Drive shortly after 8am when she was hit by an SUV. She’s cooperating with investigators, Bryan said.
The Navigator’s driver, 36-year-old Melissa Beane-Meeth of Palm Coast, stopped after the accident, which is still under investigation.
We are told the school district had counselors at the school on Wednesday, speaking with children and tending to those who are grieving.
Troopers say the girl’s bus stop was at the intersection.
This is the third incident involving a student and a vehicle in Flagler County since school started.
“They’re just unfortunate accidents from what I understand; this one being the most serious of them all”, Flagler Schools Information Specialist Jason Wheeler said. School officials said it serves as a painful reminder to drivers to be alert. “She was lovable, everybody loved her. I mean, she was joy, she always had a smile on her face”, said family friend, Clifford Coe. “I even brought her a little Minnie Mouse, you know, because she reminds me so much of my daughter. Obviously she’s very emotionally upset because of this”, said Bryan.
