“The family of Airman Spencer Stone appreciates the outpouring of love and support”, UC Davis Health Systems said.
Skarlatos took to social media Thursday morning after news broke of the stabbing, urging followers on photo-sharing site Instagram to “send a few prayers” to Stone. Store employee Ryan Romandia says the video was provided to Sacramento police.
In this August. 24 picture, Air Force Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, right, meets Chief Master Sgt. Phillip Easton, 86th Airlift Wing command chief, upon his arrival to Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Despite injuring his own thumb during the attack, Stone provided medical aid to a French passenger who had been shot after subduing the gunman.
France awarded all three Americans and Brit hero Chris Norman, 62, the Legion of Merit within days of the attack for preventing the terror attack.
The Sacramento stabbing happened in a busy area ringed with bars and restaurants that is a popular nightlife magnet for young people and is generally considered safe.
Ayoub El-Khazzani, a man with ties to radical Islam, had boarded the train with a Kalashnikov rifle, a pistol and a box cutter.
Sacramento Deputy Police Chief Ken Bernard told CNN Stone’s injuries were significant but not life-threatening.
Mr Bernard said police received a call at 12:46am from a passer-by who witnessed the fight.
Police have said they are looking for two Asian males who fled the scene in a 2009 to 2012 dark gray or black Toyota Camry.
Details of the stabbing early Thursday are unclear.
KCRA reports that a man and a woman were questioned at the scene but no arrests were made.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was listed in serious condition.
‘A1C Spencer Stone has been transported to a local hospital, and is now being treated for injury, ‘ the U.S. Air Force said in a statement.
Spencer was in 1st class on a high-speed train from Amsterdam to Paris with American friends Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos when he noticed a gunman carrying an AK-47.
The three appeared on late-night talk shows and received a parade in their home town.
As he stood there in his blue Air Force uniform, his left hand still bandaged from the struggle with the jihadi, Stone had seemed to embody the very best in us, the good that always rises to meet evil, be it at the World Trade Center or aboard a Paris express.
Skarlatos, whose heroics led to an invitation from ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars”, was rehearsing in Los Angeles instead of attending Umpqua Community College when a gunman killed nine people there October 1.
