Barnes & Noble Teams Up With Samsung to Intro Galaxy Tab E Nook

The new tablet comes a month after the duo launched the 8-inch, $400 Galaxy Tab S2 Nook, which followed the $150 Galaxy Tab 4 Nook tablet and $250 10-inch alternative that launched a year ago.

The tablet is purchasable right now on the Barnes & Noble website, as well as in-store. The tablet will feature a new 9.6-inch screen for viewing content in both portrait and landscape modes.

“We’re excited to give our customers even more ways to experience reading and entertainment with the addition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E Nook and its spacious large display”, stated chief digital officer for Barnes & Noble, Fred Argir.

Barnes & Noble has entered into a partnership with Samsung to offer a Nook-branded Galaxy Tab E tablet that will have a price tag of $250.

The latest Galaxy Tab E Nook will feature a 5MP front-facing camera and a 2MP rear-facing camera.

The tablet has Samsung’s Multi-Window feature, which splits up the display for running two apps at once. It also comes with a microSD card slot, along with Microsoft Office pre-installed.

Barnes & Noble is pitching the tablet as a family device. “Parents will appreciate the ease of setting up profiles for their children with lots of relevant kid-friendly Nook content for them to enjoy”, the company said in a statement. Despite its new products, the bookseller forecast that NOOK product sales were only expected to rise 1 percent in the next quarter. The new promo offer lets interested buyers to trade in their older devices to get a new NOOK tablet. And customers who purchase new Nooks will each receive a $5 credit to help them build their Nook libraries.

While the devices are similar to other Android tablets on the market, these particular versions are laden with reader-focused software from the get-go, including the Nook Shop for buying ebooks and a shortcut function that takes readers directly to their current book. Barnes & Noble will continue to provide the content.
