How have the stand-ins performed?

The Texans have attributed their struggles this season in the turnovver differential department, in part, to bad luck.

The 40-year-old Hasselbeck delivered when called upon.

In Luck’s absence against Jacksonville, Hasselbeck went 30-for-47 with 282 yards and one touchdown in the team’s 16-13 overtime win. He didn’t have an interception and posted a passer rating of 87.4. They undoubtedly have looked unimpressive in their first four games. If Hasselbeck and Ryan Mallett get together, the UNDER seems unstoppable.

Even so, it required a few good fortune for the Colts to prevail Sunday.

I don’t think the Colts have a great roster, there are too many holes and injuries are already piling up, but they can still win the division. It was the Colts’ 15th straight victory over divisional opponents, matching the National Football League record. This week they are ready to get Week 5 kicked off in prime time on Thursday Night Football.

Apparently, that was all coach Chuck Pagano needed to be convinced Luck was on the mend.

The “Luck Watch” has reached the same level as last week. Luck told the media that he is preparing to start and play against the Texans, but the team will not confirm his status.

Beyond the exhausted clichés (“he’s trending in the right direction”), their stab at secrecy (having the quarterbacks throw inside while the rest of the team practices outside) and the Indianapolis Colts’ utter unwillingness to divulge any real, tangible information about the status of their star quarterback (“He’s getting better”, they keep repeating), there was one nugget Tuesday that said it all. The Falcons took the 7-0 lead early, but that was just the start. Weeden’s team has lost the last 10 games he has started.

Watt finished with one sack, three tackles for loss and two passes defensed. In his three appearances this season, including the Week 2 relief outing in Philadelphia after Romo suffered a broken left collarbone, Weeden has a passer rating of 108.8. He was targeted 22 times last week (nine receptions).
