Carson says armed Jews would have ‘diminished’ Holocaust
“Ben Carson has a right to his views on gun control, but the notion that Hitler’s gun-control policy contributed to the Holocaust is historically inaccurate”, the group’s National Director said in a statement.
The Anti-Defamation League, which has been fighting anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry for over a century, swiftly responded to Carson’s comment.
“The example is too powerful perhaps”, Bennett added.
When asked to explain his opinions about the event, at various points Carson has appeared insensitive, even laughing at interview questions.
Carson told Wolf Blitzer in an interview on CNN, “I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed”.
Blitzer: So, just clarify, if there had been no gun control laws in Europe at that time would six million Jews have been slaughtered? “I think people understand what Dr. Carson is trying to say”.
Ben Carson, who is in second place in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination, is continuing to stir controversy over his response to the recent shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. “I have had a gun held on me when I was in a Popeyes organization”, said Carson. Carson’s flair for dramatic political rhetoric – he once referred to the Affordable Care Act as the “worst thing to happened in this nation since slavery” – helped to launch his presidential campaign. “I’m telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take the guns first”.
On Sirius XM Radio yesterday, however, Carson painted a different image of himself than the hypothetical hero he purports to be.
‘That’s not what I said, ‘ Carson corrected.
The retired neurosurgeon said he purposely brought up Hitler because ‘I knew the left wing would go insane, ‘ he said. Noah Webster said – when he was talking about tyranny – that the people of America would never suffer tyranny because they are armed. ‘You have to be willing to stand up… “And I just said, “I believe that you want the guy behind the counter” …”
