Tom Selleck accused of stealing water during California drought
In a recent report from news.com.au, apparently these water regulatory measures have not been thoroughly implemented as it was reported that Tom Selleck has been accused of illegally filling up a commercial water twelve times to irrigate his avocado farm and ranch located in the Hidden Valley.
Looks like Magnum P.I. just got hosed by a real life P.I. About 20 minutes later, the truck was seen delivering the water to Selleck’s Hidden Valley property, according to the complaint from Calleguas.
On various occasions during 2013-15 a white tank caring thousand tons of water was spotted by the investigators.
In documents filed at Ventura Country Superior Court, the complaint said the Calleguas Municipal Water District spent almost $22,000 (£14,300) to hire a private investigator from 2013-15 to record the thefts.
In addition to legal fees and investigative costs, the water district is seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction barring Selleck and his contractors or employees from taking water from the Calleguas water district. The local Sheriff’s Department says it’s not able to establish that a crime occurred.
Reps for Selleck did not return AP’s phone messages and emails seeking comment Wednesday. “We would fully expect that our 630,000 customers in our service area, many of whom are ripping out their lawns, drastically cutting back the amount of water they use in their yards… would hold the same view”. However the agreement only lasted a few months and the then director of Ventura County Public Works Agency canceled it after learning of the law banning transferring portable water outside a district’s boundaries.
Water has become a contentious issue in the state, because of the relentless, four-year-long drought.
The claims come in midst of the historic drought in California, in which many cities and residents have been ordered to cut water usage by as much as 25%. Selleck owns a number of properties in other areas as well including Fallbrook, Freedom and Prescott, Arizona and is known for his love for growing avocados.
