Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas helped Chile achieve a magnificent win over Brazil in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.
Alexis Sanchez then capped off a fine interchange between he and Arturo Vidal in the 90th minute to secure the points for the hosts.
Brazil will also enter into the match missing Neymar, one of their star players, due to match-bans that he received after insulting a referee during the Copa America tournament.
Chile had more energy and more chances in the match in Santiago.
Chile hit the woodwork again early in the second half through Mauricio Isla before the breakthrough came through Vargas.
“In ’94 we were champions and the Copa America was next”.
However, the 26-year-old has failed to take part in any training sessions so far this week as he struggles to shake off the groin problem in time to line-up against Brazil in Santiago on Friday night.
Brazil had been desperate to move on from a disappointing Copa America campaign which followed their humiliating 7-1 drubbing against Germany in last year’s World Cup semi-finals.
In other qualifiers on Thursday, Uruguay overcame the altitude in La Paz to defeat Bolivia 2-0 with goals from Martin Caceres and Diego Godin.
Teofilo Gutierrez and Edwin Cardona scored in Colombia’s 2-0 victory over Peru in the Colombian city of Barranquilla.
Brazil, who were without suspended Barcelona striker Neymar and lacked direction, will aim to get back on the winning track at home to Venezuela on Tuesday, while Chile will travel to Lima to face Peru.
