‘I NEVER thought about moving’ – Mario Gotze quashes Arsenal and Manchester
“The last two years were certainly like a ripening process for me.
I feel very, very good here and I’m glad to be a Bayern player”.
Gotze appeared to overstretch as he battled for possession with Everton midfielder James McCarthy before being replaced by Andre Schurrle, and Bundesliga winners Bayern have now released a statement confirming the extent of the injury.
He recently insisted in the press that he wanted to stay at Bayern despite rumours linking him with a move away, saying to Suddeutsche Zeitung: “I made my own mistakes but I’ve also had to withstand a lot of things that have been twisted”.
Gotze broke through at Borussia Dortmund under soon to be named Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp before completing a controversial move to Bayern in 2013.
The injury, suffered during Germany’s UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match with Ireland, comes at the worst possible time for Gotze, with club Bayern set to embark on a crucial spell of games.
Gotze now faces a race to be back in action before the Bundesliga’s winter break in December – while he is certain to miss Bayern’s two Champions League clashes with Arsenal.
“Probably the people have thought “He signed there just because of money”.
“Today I know, at the beginning of pre-season training in Munich that I should have explained the transfer”.
On his absence from the Champions League final, he added: “The season ran toward its climax, all I had in my mind was the final”.
