‘Ant-Man’ Sequel, ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ New Release Dates
We can’t wait to be struck with the tidal wave of superhero movies that is Marvel’s Phase Three in the next few years! Marvel has just greenlit a sequel to last summer’s Ant-Man-but there’s a twist, and it’s right there in the sequel’s title: Ant-Man and the Wasp. Not only have three mysterious new movies been added to the schedule, but Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne are teaming up for Ant-Man and The Wasp!
Also on Thursday, Disney, the parent company of Marvel and ABC News, announced release dates for a couple of animated Pixar sequels, including Cars 3, which will open June 16, 2017. The studio’s first woman-led film, Captain Marvel, is pushed into early 2019.
Douglas told Digital Spy that he’s keen to see his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones take on the role of original Wasp Hope Van Dyne. Notably, the movie’s announced release date, July 6, 2018, will make it the first Marvel movie to feature a female in the title – even if she is sharing that honor with Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.
Ahead of the release, new Japanese promotional material for the Captain America sequel shows the suits of the Avengers in the film. In addition to this, Marvel Studios used this announcement to confirm that they will be releasing three more films that have yet to be titled, in May, July and November of 2020. In total, we’re going to get 14 movies in Phase 3, and based on how Marvel is building toward the Infinity War conclusion, we could see an announcement of a Phase 4 in the next year or two. Sadly, it also means that Captain Marvel is getting yet another bump to March 8, 2019 from November 2, 2018. I’ve said before that I wouldn’t be shocked if the job went to F. Gary Gray, a director whose name is being tossed around for other high-profile projects now (“Furious 8” most recently), after the vast success of “Straight Outta Compton”.
