NFL Week 5 Odds, Spread & Over/Under Total: Bears vs. Chiefs
FAST FACTS: The Chiefs’ first four opponents had a combined record of 13-3 through four weeks.
The Bears defense has improved noticeably each of the past two weeks.
The Bears have finished three of their four games with more impressive box scores and out-gained their opponents in total yards, but that hasn’t translated to much in the win column. If nothing else, this team appears competitive again, which gives them a chance.
The Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs square off Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium.
“I believe this is a good team”. We’re learning. It’s a long season.
No matter how much Jamaal Charles gets the ball, it’s a thing in Kansas City: When the Chiefs lose, it’s because Charles doesn’t get the ball enough. “You have to go out and pick up all the mess and do something about it, and do a few rebuilding”.
“We’ve got to straighten up the locker room and pick up all the trash and be behind each other as a team”. He trails only Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes for the most rushing attempts in franchise history, and his three 200-yard rushing performances are the three most dominant performances by a running back in Kansas City.
Those trends bode well for the KC Chiefs, especially if Cutler and Jeffery are less than 100% because the home team is ranked 28th against the pass on defense. “We still have our confidence up”.
Bears inside linebacker Christian Jones in particular must read his keys and show block recognition to lead him into the flats as the primary screen defender. The last game between the teams was in 2011 when the Chiefs earned a 10-3 victory at Soldier Field.
With a re-shuffled offensive line, the Kansas City defensive line must be licking their chops.
The Chiefs could certainly use a couple of home runs.
This game could come down to who can stop the rushing game. Since then, the Chiefs have been outscored 88-56, exposing problems on both sides of the ball. Smith has a touchdown pass in six of his last 10 games. These two have split their last 8 meetings, but the Chiefs have covered the spread in three straight against Chicago.
Chiefs defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas (2002-09) and director of college scouting Marvin Allen (2009-12) were with the Atlanta Falcons while Bears linebackers coach Glenn Pires (2008-14) served in the same capacity. Kansas City is a hard place to play. Now that the starting group is settled with safety Eric Berry back in the lineup and cornerback Sean Smith back from an National Football League suspension, the level of their play and production should rise.
His counterpart is having a terrific season as well.
This season, Forte has rushed 84 times for 367 yards and a touchdown.
