Nadiya wins 2015 Great British Bake Off final
The mum of three from Leeds said: “I practised so much at home before the final, right through the night and even in the morning before I was going to catch my train”. Unsurprisingly, audiences and social media users watching the teary display could not help but weep along with the duo.
Nadiya is a 30-year-old mum who been baking up a storm in the kitchen for 10 years now, after learning all about it at school.
The technical challenge was raspberry mille feuille – chosen because all three finalists had previously struggled with pastry!
She wowed the judges with last week’s biscuit peacock and during the finale produced faultless iced buns, millefeuille and a Union Jack-themed wedding cake wrapped in a sari.
But it was Nadiya who triumphed over all of them when she served up a saree wedding cake so neat it looked like it had been moulded from stone, and so delicious Paul looked a little bit lost for words.
“I’m never going to put boundaries on myself ever again”, she said.
And we got an update on all the bakers!
“It’s not just baking it’s showing that ordinary people are capable of doing something extraordinary – in the end its powerful viewing and gets people interested in the family – cooking and entertaining at home which has to be a good thing for anyone in the artisan food industry”.
Despite falling apart a few times, and getting quite emotional, the 37-year-old dad of two said he really enjoyed his time on the BBC programme. We’d already taken out our showstoppers after they’d been judged, and there was nothing but crumbs left.
Previous winners have created careers out of their victories, penning cookbooks and newspaper columns. FIVE. His wife admits he’s been a man possessed since the beginning of Bake Off, but also says he’s the family’s rock.
“I’ve wanted this for so long and to do it and to have come this far is such a massive achievement”.
“With a very supportive husband and a belief in my own ability, I can now carry on having my adventure”.
“I can see that my emotions match my face, and I can watch that back, so it’s really weird”.
Nadiya took the prize after 10 weeks and 30 challenges during which her creativity and humour made her a favourite with viewers.
User Eirian Williams said: “Crying at the final”.
Paul Hollywood added: “All three Bakers pushed the boat out for the final, but it’s all about keeping calm and being consistent throughout”.
“Her performance has shown that just because she is a Muslim it doesn’t mean she can’t do well on something so typically British as Bake Off”.
