Kansas State Preview Capsule
Boykin and comany will for sure be tested those last 3 or 4 weeks of the season, but I feel that they have what it takes to to completely swipe the slate clean and finish the season undefeated and be that #1 overall team in the playoff and show everybody why holding them out of last years premiere of the College Football was a mistake, not taking away from the greatness of last year’s playoff, but I believe TCU deserved to be in their ahead of Ohio State. Hubener was banged up in last week’s game against the Cowboys, forcing WR Kody Cook to play as the emergency fifth-string quarterback. The Horned Frogs’ only win at Kansas State came in 1985….
Kansas State simply doesn’t have the personnel to keep TCU’s bevy of talented offensive threats in check, and since Patterson arrived at the school in 2000, the Horned Frogs are 26-8 when they throw for more than 300 yards, which they nearly certainly will do Saturday. Though they don’t have many top tier players just yet, the Wildcats are no push over. As Kansas State’s beat writer, Kellis Robinett, posited in September, “Hayes thinks stopping the run is the most important thing a defense can do”.
After dealing with adversity, TCU is in a great position as the midway point of the season arrives.
Across the field from Hubener on Saturday will be Trevone Boykin, a name inextricably linked to the still-too-early-to-tell-but-is-probably-Leonard-Fournette’s-to-lose Heisman Trophy race. The over/under for this game is 63.5 total points.
Records: Baylor 4-0, 1-0; Kansas 0-4, 0-1.
BAYLOR: The Bears are more than six-touchdown favorites Saturday at Kansas before playing three of their next four games at home, where their 18-game winning streak is the longest among FBS teams.
“We have to be able to defend against the pass better and we have to go up and make a few plays on deep-thrown balls”, he said.
Scouting Oklahoma: The 10th-ranked Sooners will be on upset alert but will rely on resourceful quarterback Baker Mayfield to make the plays on offense. The Horned Frogs don’t need to pitch a shutout so much as they need Kansas State to simply run out of an already-limited supply of gasoline. Texas is last in the Big 12 in total offense and scoring, so it’s doubtful the Longhorns have the firepower to take on Oklahoma, which averages 521 yards a contest.
BEST MATCHUP: No. 21 Oklahoma St. (5-0, 2-0) at West Virginia (3-1, 0-1).
Kansas State won’t be an easy out, but the Wildcats do have concerns at quarterback. Defensively, the TCU Horned Frogs yield 213.2 yards in passing and 174.0 yards in rushing.
Kansas State might be pretty good at halting big plays and limiting the ground game, but they’ve had a few really hard times containing mobile quarterbacks.
TCU is coming off its best defensive game, a 50-7 defeat of Texas.
If Boykin can get the ball to Josh Doctson in the same way he has through the team’s first five games, there will be no problem defeated the Wildcats on the road.
