Man accuses Rubio of adultery, gets booted from event
Rubio, by contrast, has proven the least gaffe-prone candidate in the race so far and impressed voters with his ease when discussing global affairs.
His views are only marginally different from many other hopefuls: he opposed a government shutdown, though he favors defunding Planned Parenthood; he enabled Ohio to participate in the Medicaid expansion through Obamacare; and he favors legal status for undocumented immigrants. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, 62 for Sen.
Rubio’s response to all of it? When he’s in Washington, he’ll drop by Bible study one night and head to fundraisers the other two nights he’s in town – skipping out on the wining and dining that often takes place around the chummy confines of Capitol Hill.
Ah, but being one of the leaders of the race for the Republican presidential nomination sure has made Florida’s junior senator change his tune.
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush came under criticism recently when asked how the GOP could appeal to black voters.
“For example, these were not assault rifles, these were handguns that he had purchased”, the Florida senator told TODAY’s Matt Lauer about the weapons used by the Oregon gunman. Even two tea party types, Sens. Ted Cruz could do the same in Iowa.
Rubio is forgoing a re-election run in 2016. “He’s running for president because he believes it’s time for a new generation of leadership”. Bush aides and allies have increasingly been highlighting Rubio’s poor attendance for votes in Washington – a tally that has also been fodder for another new Rubio agitator, Donald Trump. “The majority of the work of a senator is the constituent service”. He has actually missed 42 percent of the Senate votes since announcing his candidacy. “If you don’t want to vote on things, don’t run for office”, he said while giving a speech on the Senate floor. “Be a columnist. Get a talk show”: CNN.
The left was also quick to seize on Rubio’s absence Tuesday. According to a Politico review of his record from 2011 to 2014, Rubio missed 52 of 106 hearings on both panels.
Missing a few votes is understandable.
Rubio has worked on big legislation in the Senate.
Republicans say Rubio must now withstand media scrutiny of his years as member and eventually speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and as a USA senator. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, a co-author of the Rubio-backed bill. “The laws that many are proposing would have done nothing to prevent these attacks”.
That’s one possibility. Another is that Bush could be anxious about contradicting his previous praise for Rubio as presidential material.
“I think Democrats need to recognize that the gig economy is here”, Askin said.
